Offline promotion for online affiliate business is a great way to grow your online affiliate marketing business. Whether it’s pay-per-click advertising or search engine optimization, the biggest challenge facing most affiliates is driving quality traffic to their Web sites. The learning curve is steep, and plagued with obstacles. Just when you think you’ve found a way, your PPC campaigns are slapped down. Or your Squidoo lenses are locked. What is Pay-Per-Call?
Pay-per-call (PPCall) is exactly what the name implies. It’s a performance based advertising method where advertisers pay publishers for generated phone leads and/or sales. As affiliate marketers we tend to think in terms of getting clicks to our websites and landing pages to generate leads and sales. With the PPCall method the goal is to generate phone calls.
One of the main reasons why offline advertising has become an option for affiliate marketing is pay-per-call advertising. With pay-per-call advertising (PPCall), you are assigned a unique phone number that rings 24/7 at a fully-staffed call center. Whenever someone calls your phone number and a pre-determined requirement is met (i.e. the call lasts for 10 minutes or more) you earn a commission! In other words, you’re paid per phone lead.
Google has recently revisited PPCall and is experimenting online with cost-per-action and lead generation ad models, some of which involve phone calls. I’ve been informed that the company also intends to implement PPCall at some point in the future. I expect Google will use it in mobile as well as selectively online. In addition, Yext, a call-based online lead generation company, claims to already be doing $20 million in revenue today.
Part of the reason that PPCall is showing new life is that the rationale behind the model is sound:
* It’s versatile and can be used in traditional or digital media
* Most SMBs prefer calls to clicks
* The closing or conversion rate for calls is many times higher than for clicks
* Most people still use the phone to contact businesses in their area
